Who we are

Špela, Mateja, Reza and Talija - cooking enthusiasts in love with Slovenian cuisine and wines. We believe in fresh and locally produced ingredients, waking up at 5.00am to pick mushrooms, herbs or chestnuts in the forest, turning them into delicious soups, pies, jams, cakes, and drinks. We carry on the rich culinary traditions of our grandmothers with a twist of our own.

Our love for cooking developed through family, travel, cooking classes, and professional experience. We have more than 15 years of experience in tourism, event management, organization, and marketing. Now we would like to combine the two things we enjoy most - cooking and working with people. We will show you the best there is about Slovenian cuisine.

Cooking classes taught by local women

Our cooking classes are very hands-on and immerse you into the local culture where you will experience a culinary occasion like no other. Our classes are taught by the local Goriška Brda women and they  teach unique recipes and techniques passed down from generation to generation over the centuries.

The classes are taught in English, but if you like, we can teach you some simple "foodie Slovenian" to help you order in restaurants and be polite to the locals.

The area Goriška Brda is probably one of the most exciting culinary regions in the world. Here subtle Mediterranean influences meet strong continental tastes, demanding the disciplined Austro-Slovenian tradition to adopt vivid Italian creativity and rich heritage.

It is a land of gently rolling hills, covered with orchards and vineyards and dotted with small villages. Gentle climate assures ideal growing conditions for grapes and Mediterranean fruits: cherries, peaches and apricots. There is no mass production here, but wine growers of Goriška Brda are world famous for the quality of their wine - and wine conoisseurs will recognise many of the names as you travel through Goriška Brda.

The wines themselves are like the wine region: diverse, disobedient, exhilarating – while accurate, rich and beautiful. Unique climate, with the mix of severe Alpine and mild Mediterranean influences, combined with the mineral and fertile soil and blessed with the knowledge of hardworking and educated winemakers have produced some of the most excited wines on the planet.

You will be accomodated in a beautiful family run Štekar homestead, located in the picturesquare village of Snežatno with breathtaking views of the rolling hills of the Goriška Brda region. Family members follow and nurture a centuries-old tradition of wine making in addition to offering diverse, excellent and cetrified organic wines. At the homestead you will also enjoy in delicious traditional and local dishes, prepared  -  using local ingredients and traditional methods - by the owner's wife Anuška, with great skils and love.
